Great costume day! We were excited to find frog eggs and tadpoles at the park. Making craters like on the moon was interesting.

The week ahead: April 13-17

• Monday – at the park. Regular K classes are joining us for a froggy field day.
• Tuesday – at the school. Walk to Salishan place for a presentation with author Kung Jaadee.
• Wednesday – at FLE. Library book exchange.
• Thursday – at FLE. Used book fair – If you would like your child to be able to buy a book, please send a few dollars. Our visit is at 12:30-12:45pm. I would appreciate a parent helper or two if anyone is available.
• Friday – at FLE. Hawk virtue assembly. Gardening on school grounds.

We are starting at a new park tomorrow. Many of us will need an earlier start to the day to get through the traffic on the way. It’s all worth it once we get there as this park offers so much biodiversity to explore!

There is a Special Weather Statement for winds in the Fraser Valley tonight and Tuesday morning. LEAP policy is to stay at school if winds are over 30km/hr since branches could fall on us. LEAP teachers will be in communication tonight and early in the morning to see if the wind actually manifests. Please keep an eye on your email before leaving home tomorrow morning. We’ll only email if there is a change of location to learn at FLE instead.

The week ahead: April 7-10

• Tuesday – at the new park (meet at the picnic shelter) unless winds cause a venue change. Either way, we’ll be trying to create craters like on the moon using meteors (rocks) and imagining what a trip to the moon would be like.
• Wednesday – At FLE. Library book exchange. Bring “Let’s Read!” booklets. Fun lunch.
• Thursday – At FLE. Spring flower art.
• Friday – At FLE. Community walk or gardening outdoors. If anyone has vegetable seeds or bedding plants they would like to donate, we would appreciate them! Things that ripen early like radishes, snap peas, lettuce, kale and things that ripen in September like sunflowers, tomatoes, squash are best.

• Monday – drop off at FLE, pick up at the park (see map emailed)
• Tuesday – drop off at the park, pick up at FLE.
• Wednesday – Field Trip to Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery for Learn to Fish Program. Dress for the weather!
• Thursday  – at FLE.
• Friday – No school for Good Friday. Happy Easter!

A very Canadian trio of activities will happen this week. We’ll be snowshoeing Monday, playing floor hockey Tuesday through Friday, and planting potatoes, too. That will take us into Spring Break!

• Monday – snowshoeing at Mt. Seymour. Bus loads at 8:30AM.
• Tuesday – at FLE. Principal’s Cup Floor Hockey at 1:15.
• Wednesday – at FLE. Book Fair. No library book exchange this week, but books can still be returned. Floor Hockey at 12:10. Fun lunch pizza.
• Thursday – at FLE. Floor Hockey at 8:30. Potato planting.
• Friday – at FLE. Floor Hockey @ 10:20. Hall Xmas Decorating Challenge Reward – Free Pizza lunch!

If you are looking for a fun, free nature activity, please join me and the YWES (Yorkson Watershed Enhancement Society) on Sunday, March 29 at 11:00AM to release 50,000 chum fry into Yorkson Creek by the bucketful. It’s a very kid-friendly (albeit muddy) activity that takes about an hour. No registration needed. Location: Derby Hills Park 98 Ave at 20500 block.

Our last outdoor days at the park promise to be enjoyable. I’m looking forward to sharing student progress at the conferences this week. Please continue to send in field trip forms (snowshoeing and fishing)

• Monday – At the park. We’ll go on a big hike to find out what’s on the other side of the Island and then draw maps of our special places.
• Tuesday – At the park. Cultural picnic. If you would like to send a sample of food to share, that would be great!
• Wednesday – at FLE. Book exchanges. Early Dismissal at 12:08 for conferences.
• Thursday – Conferences all day. Students only attend at their conference time.
• Friday – at FLE. Career dress-up Spirit Day.

Last week, continued learning about the Olympics and cheering on our country.

We ended by caring for the environment and having a great time working together outdoors. We even found some big worms! Thank you so much to all the parents who came and helped dig and mulch!

• Monday & Tuesday – at the park. We’ll learn about rocks through scientific and artistic ways.
• Wednesday – Pink Shirt Day. Wear pink to show support and earn more house points. Return home reading and library books. Return Mt. Seymour permission and Family Reflection forms (OVERDUE!)
• Thursday – Viewing treasure maps with Ms. Stickney’s class.
• Friday – Community Walk. Acting out a story with nature materials will help us learn about including others.

Go Canada Go! Students enjoyed a taste of Winter Olympic sports last week. We were excited to see signs of spring but with snow in the forecast, maybe it’s a bit too soon.

Working together to make a fort was fun and a great way to practice friendship skills.

Thank you to everyone who offered to drive and help on Feb.20! We have enough drivers now. I will be confirming volunteer driver paperwork is complete on Feb. 18.

This week at the park, we did some predicting of the weather to come and learned about the groundhog day tradition.

Creative play is blossoming. Check out these photos of a fishing rod, a trap, ‘yucky food’ restaurant, and a rock shop!

We also made bird treats out of pinecones and practiced letters along the trail.

• Wednesday – We can wear pink for anti-bullying each Wednesday in February. Please send back library and home reading books, and return the small slip of paper for Feb. 20 field trip drivers if you are able to help out. Fun lunch today!

We’ll be watching the skies to see what birds we can find this week at the park. Students will also get to try making a nest and a flyer. I’ll bring some hot apple cider to share on Monday to help us keep warm. Send a small cup or non-breakable mug.
